In 1894 when the Extension of the Naval Yard at Hong Kong had been definitely approved, the estimated expenditure was £575,500.

In reply to the application for a stepways extension on the Western Boundaries of the old Naval Yard, it is noted that absolutely further buildings are required as the space is left for any extension of existing ones.

From the known growing requirements for workshop accommodation, the extension will, when completed, be equally congested having no space for further expansion.
